๐ Why Youโll love this recipe!
- Quick and Easy: This vegan sauce recipe is super quick and comes together in just a few minutes with simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.ย

๐ Ingredient notes
Vegan Mayonnaise (150g): The base of our delicious burger sauce. I used my own homemade vegan mayo, but you can use your favourite shop bought one if you like. Whatever you have around is fine.
Ketchup (2 tbsp): Adds a touch of sweetness and tanginess. I know the original McDonald’s burger sauce doesn’t have ketchup, but I like it!
Sweet Relish (2 tbsp): Provides a bit of texture and a sweet and tangy flavour that complements the other ingredients.
Dijon Mustard (1 tbsp): Adds a subtle sharpness and depth of flavour. Feel free to use whatever kind of mustard you like best. I think our friends over in the U.S. tend to use what they call “yellow mustard”โbecause apparently, not all mustard is yellow?
Apple Cider Vinegar (1 tbsp): A touch of vinegar balances the sweetness and adds a bit of zing. White wine vinegar, or even lemon juice would also work fine here.
Garlic Powder (1/2 tsp) & Onion Powder (1/2 tsp): These two spices add a bit of extra depth and round off the flavour of the sauce.
Smoked Paprika (1/2 tsp): Adds a subtle smokiness and a touch of warmth.
White Pepper (1/4 tbsp): Adds a little peppery undertone without actually being spicy. Feel free to use black pepper if that’s what you have on hand.
๐ฅฃ How to make this classic burger sauce
- Mix It Up: This is about as simple as it gets! Just add all the ingredients to a bowl and mix them together until they’re well combined.
- Taste and Adjust: Give it a taste and adjust any of the ingredients to your liking. You might want to add a bit more vinegar for extra tanginess or a pinch more paprika for a smokier flavour.
- Chill (Optional): You can use the sauce right away, but if you have time, let it chill in the fridge for a few hours or even overnight. This will allow the flavours to meld together and create an even tastier sauce.
- Build: Now you’re ready to take a vegan bun, some of this special burger sauce, your favourite patty and build yourself a really good burger!
๐จ Potential variations
- Sweet and Smoky Burger Sauce: Add a touch of sweetness with a drizzle of maple syrup and enhance the smoky flavour with a bit more smoked paprika.
- Simple Salad Dressing: Thin out the burger sauce with a little water or plant-based milk to create a creamy, flavorful salad dressing.
- Spicy Burger Sauce: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a hint of spice.
- Extra Tangy Burger Sauce: For an extra tangy kick, add a splash of pickle juice to the mix. You could even try a dash of hot sauce.

๐ค Frequently asked questions
Can I make this Vegan Burger Sauce ahead of time?ย
Absolutely! This quick sauce is perfect for making ahead of time. Simply store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. It’s a great option for meal prepping or for those times when you want to have a delicious sauce on hand for quick and easy meals.
Can I use a food processor to make this sauce?ย
While a food processor, or a high-speed blender will work, heck, you could even use a hand blender. But it’s really not necessary. The ingredients are all fairly smooth, you can easily mix them together by hand in a bowl.
Is this Vegan Burger Sauce recipe the same as McDonald’s burger sauce?
It’s a copycat recipe, but not exactly the same but it’s my version of a vegan big mac sauce recipe. I’ve added ketchup to my version. I know it isn’t traditionally included in McDonald’s burger sauce. I think it makes it better! But I think @chefmikeharacz might disagree…
